The one I have, Kenwood 710G is a bit more pricey then the V71A, but it has a built in TNC and GPS for APRS use. I like it and am happy with it. I have that and it works great for me. Have used it for cross-banding at some of our events and it's seemless. It's a broad band receiver so i can listen to Aviation and Marine traffic which gives me giggles. It has a weather alert feature so that if NOAA sends out a notice the radio will switch to it and play it.</span></p></div><div><p class="ydpa16491d2yiv1587466680MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:10.0pt;font-family:sans-serif;">I chose it initially because it was one of the few radios that allowed the mic to be attached to the brain and not the detachble face. I have the face mounted above my rear view mirror so it's hidden from plain sight. I didn't want the mic cord hanging down from there and being in my way. I believe more units are coming that way now. I used to be a Yeasu only guy but I'm starting to move over to the Kenwood group. He told me that he forgot his phone one day, and through that radio he was able to send his wife(who's not a ham....yet) a text message to her phone that said that. She then replied that she got the message. Super cool.
