The one I have, Kenwood 710G is a bit more pricey then the V71A, but it has a built in TNC and GPS for APRS use. I like it and am happy with it. I have that and it works great for me. Have used it for cross-banding at some of our events and it's seemless. It's a broad band receiver so i can listen to Aviation and Marine traffic which gives me giggles. It has a weather alert feature so that if NOAA sends out a notice the radio will switch to it and play it.<o:p></o:p></span></p></div><div><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Helvetica",sans-serif'>I chose it initially because it was one of the few radios that allowed the mic to be attached to the brain and not the detachble face. I have the face mounted above my rear view mirror so it's hidden from plain sight. I didn't want the mic cord hanging down from there and being in my way. I believe more units are coming that way now. I used to be a Yeasu only guy but I'm starting to move over to the Kenwood group. I have several of their products and I find them to be thought out nicely.<o:p></o:p></span></p></div><div><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Helvetica",sans-serif'><o:p> </o:p></span></p></div><div><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Helvetica",sans-serif'>So my experience with that radio is 10 out of 10 stars BUT........ Matthew, KN6CEI showed me his next gen. The Kenwood D-710G. It has aprs and digital messaging. He told me that he forgot his phone one day, and through that radio he was able to send his wife(who's not a ham....yet) a text message to her phone that said that. She then replied that she got the message. Super cool. I'm saving my pennies for an upgrade.<o:p></o:p></span></p></div><div><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Helvetica",sans-serif'><o:p> </o:p></span></p></div><div><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Helvetica",sans-serif'>A<o:p></o:p></span></p></div><div><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Helvetica",sans-serif'><o:p> </o:p></span></p></div></div><div id="ydp259a3bc8yahoo_quoted_3990747671"><div><div><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Helvetica",sans-serif;color:#26282A'>On Monday, June 29, 2020, 8:35:08 AM PDT, Donald Nelson via Harc <<a href="mailto:harc@humboldt-arc.org">harc@humboldt-arc.org</a>> wrote: <o:p></o:p></span></p></div><div><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Helvetica",sans-serif;color:#26282A'><o:p> </o:p></span></p></div><div><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Helvetica",sans-serif;color:#26282A'><o:p> </o:p></span></p></div><div><div id=ydp259a3bc8yiv6965403545><div><div><div><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Helvetica",sans-serif;color:#26282A'>Cliff,<o:p></o:p></span></p></div><div><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Helvetica",sans-serif;color:#26282A'><o:p> </o:p></span></p></div><div><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Helvetica",sans-serif;color:#26282A'>I would look hard at the Kenwood TM-V71A.
