Have used it for cross-banding at some of our events and it's seemless. It's a broad band receiver so i can listen to Aviation and Marine traffic which gives me giggles. It has a weather alert feature so that if NOAA sends out a notice the radio will switch to it and play it.</span></div><div dir="ltr" data-setdir="false"><span>I chose it initially because it was one of the few radios that allowed the mic to be attached to the brain and not the detachble face. I have the face mounted above my rear view mirror so it's hidden from plain sight. I didn't want the mic cord hanging down from there and being in my way. I believe more units are coming that way now. I used to be a Yeasu only guy but I'm starting to move over to the Kenwood group. I have several of their products and I find them to be thought out nicely.</span></div><div dir="ltr" data-setdir="false"><span><br></span></div><div dir="ltr" data-setdir="false"><span>So my experience with that radio is 10 out of 10 stars BUT........ Matthew, KN6CEI showed me his next gen. The </span>Kenwood D-710G. It has aprs and digital messaging. He told me that he forgot his phone one day, and through that radio he was able to send his wife(who's not a ham....yet) a text message to her phone that said that. She then replied that she got the message. Super cool. I'm saving my pennies for an upgrade.</div><div dir="ltr" data-setdir="false"><br></div><div dir="ltr" data-setdir="false">A<br></div><div><br></div>

<div dir="ltr">Cliff,</div><div dir="ltr"><br clear="none"></div><div dir="ltr">I would look hard at the Kenwood TM-V71A. Dual band VHF/UHF 50 watt mobile with crossband(handheld to vehicle repeater) capability. Lots of memory channels. Detachable control head. Port for data communications. Almost perfect for an analog dual-bander. </div><div><br clear="none"></div>
